On Friday 8 January 2020, the Luxembourg Army, at the Military Centre in Diekirch, held its 38th session of recruits and the passing-out ceremony of 42 new soldiers.

The ceremony took place in a very small setting due to current COVID-19 restrictions. In order to allow the families of the soldiers, as well as all members of the Army to follow the ceremony, it was broadcast online via livestream. At the end of the ceremony, the recording made during the livestream was uploaded to www.armee.lu as well as the Army's YouTube channel.

In the presence of Luxembourg's Minister of Defence, François Bausch, the 42 volunteer soldiers, including 4 of foreign nationality, took the oath. The ceremony marks the completion of the four-month basic training that prepared the recruits for their future military activities with the Army. In his speech, Minister Bausch noted the exceptional situation in which the basic training took place and he thanked them for their commitment to the service of the country.

During the ceremony, a medal was presented to each member of the Luxembourg contingents deployed during 2019 and 2020 in Mali and Lithuania, as well as to a pilot officer who participated in various operational support missions.
