The municipality of Mertert has signed a framework agreement on gender equality with Luxembourg's Ministry for Equality between Women and Men.

Mertert has become the third municipality, after Steinfort and Clervaux, to conclude the new model framework agreement to promote equality between women and men at the local level.

During the solemn act of signing at the Equality Ministry, Luxembourg's Minister for Equality between Women and Men, Taina Bofferding, commented: “I welcome the commitment of the politicians of Mertert to have decided to collaborate with the ministry during the initial phase of the launch of the framework convention with the country's municipalities. Together with the ministry, tools ensuring equality between women and men in all fields of action of the municipality can thus be developed”.

The implementation of the agreement with Mertert will be monitored and evaluated by mutual agreement during the year 2021.

As an advisory partner, the ministry will support and assist the municipalities in their implementation of a sustainable policy. This close collaboration is formalised by an agreement which regulates the various stages and procedures of the partnership. Following the pilot phase, the ministry will offer this support method to all municipalities in Luxembourg.
