The Luxembourg Army celebrated its patronal feast of Saint Martin today at the military centre in Diekirch.
The celebration, held on Wednesday 11 November 2020, took place in the presence of Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, François Bausch.
This year, the ceremony, which normally brings together around 600 soldiers and guests, took place exceptionally in a very small setting. The number of participants was reduced to 96 and a strict sanitary concept, validated by the Ministry of Health, was put in place.
In his speech, Minister François Bausch thanked the members of the army for their many missions in the fight against COVID-19. He also highlighted the importance of multilateralism in international relations, adding that the missions of the army within the framework of the United Nations (UN), European Union (EU) and NATO are essential to guarantee security in Luxembourg and beyond.
