Luxembourg's Ministry of Family Affairs, Integration and the Greater Region has announced the early opening of "Wanteraktioun" accommodation facilities for the homeless in Findel in light of the recently announced curfew.
Due to the curfew introduced by the government to fight COVID-19, the ministry decided to open these shelters earlier than usual this year. The move aims to help homeless people in Luxembourg respect the ban on going out between 23:00 and 06:00. As such, the Wanteraktioun shelters will be open exceptionally from Monday 2 November until Sunday 15 November 2020, between 22:00 and 08:00.
As this is an emergency measure, beneficiaries will not be able to immediately benefit from support services or meals.
A shuttle bus will be organised to allow the people concerned to transit between Luxembourg City and the accommodation structure.
Caritas Luxembourg is in charge of running these shelters and supervising beneficiaries.
Due to the health crisis, the Wanteraktioun initiative itself will also open earlier than expected, on Monday 16 November 2020, after which all the usual services (meals, medical and psycho-social support, activities) will be available to homeless people.
