According to Luxembourg's Immigration Directorate, the number of people applying for international protection (asylum) in Luxembourg in September 2020 stood at 158, up from 90 the previous month and exactly the same number as in September 2019.

A total of 99 decisions on asylum applications were taken during September 2020, with 37 applicants being granted international protection in Luxembourg and nineteen being refused. To date this year, 568 applicants have been granted asylum in Luxembourg.

A total of 785 applications for asylum have been received so far this year, compared to 1,538 at this stage last year. The largest number of applicants seeking asylum in 2020 to date came from Syria (183), followed by Eritrea (103) and Afghanistan (73).
