According to Luxembourg's Immigration Directorate, the number of people applying for international protection (asylum) in Luxembourg in August 2020 stood at 91, down from 94 the previous month and from 184 in August 2019.
A total of 149 decisions on asylum applications were taken during August 2020, with 90 applicants being granted international protection in Luxembourg and 28 being refused. To date this year, 531 applicants have been granted asylum in Luxembourg.
A total of 628 applications for asylum have been received so far this year, compared to 1,380 at this stage last year. The largest number of applicants seeking asylum in 2020 to date came from Syria (146), followed by Eritrea (83) and Afghanistan (58).
