The Grand Ducal Police have announced the passing of a 44-year-old man who had been taken into custody at Luxembourg train station (Gare) on Thursday evening.

The man was placed in a sobering cell due to his inebriated state and his posing a potential threat to himself and others, according to the police. A doctor approved the transfer.

During a routine cell check just before 21:00, officers found that the man was showing no signs of life. After failed attempts at resuscitation, an emergency doctor declared the man dead.

The Public Prosecutor's Office has requested an autopsy to determine the cause of death, whilst the General Police Inspectorate took over the investigation.
