Luxembourg's Ministry of Health has announced that more than 66,000 calls have been received on the COVID-19 hotline (tel: 8002-8080), as well as an additional 2,900 calls on the emergency telephone number (tel: 112) since the start of the crisis.
Daily peaks ranged from 250 to 1,700 calls. 79% of the calls related to questions related to public health and the course of the disease, 14% were in an economic context, 4% in a psychological context and 3% concerned the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.
Set up on 2 March 2020 under the general coordination of the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS), the hotline aims to establish direct contact between the authorities and the population in order to respond to questions and information general during the crisis phase. In addition, its purpose is to avoid saturation of calls to the 112 emergency response centre.
Medical centres, which had suspended night and weekend services at the start of the health crisis, will reopen during the second half of May. Home visits for non-COVID patients, also at night and on weekends, are unchanged.
The Health Ministry also announced that, from Saturday 16 May 020, as part of the government's deconfinement strategy, the operating hours of the “Covid-19 Hotline” will be adapted: the free government number will continue to operate weekdays from Monday to Friday between 08:00 - 16:00.
