In the early hours of Monday 14 April 2020, a motorcyclist suffered what were described as serious injuries when crashing during a police chase.

The incident happened at around 01:00 this morning when a police patrol became aware of a motorcyclist on the grounds of a charity in the Route de Thionville in Luxembourg-ville. When the officers approached the motorcyclist, he immediately fled across the grounds with his vehicle and ignored any signs to stop.

The driver drove along the Route de Thionville in the direction of the Rocade de Bonnevoie, where he then turned again into the route de Thionville in order to drive away at a higher speed. While fleeing through other streets, the driver disregarded several traffic regulations, including driving the wrong way around a roundabout. In the "rue Dernier Sol" (a one-way street) the motorcyclist tried to drive past an oncoming patrol car coming in the other direction, but the motorcycle hit a kerb and crashed.

The driver suffered serious injuries but was still responsive and the officers provided first aid until the ambulance arrived and brought him to hospital to be treated for his injuries.

A search found that the man was not carrying any identity documents, however four drug balls (heroin and cocaine) were discovered. By order of the public prosecutor, the items found during the body search, including a cell phone, cash, and seized drugs as well as the motorcycle, which was not the motorcyclist's property, were confiscated.
