At Friday's cabinet meeting of the Luxembourg government, they agreed to reduce the period of training for police cadets, from three years to two years.

In the general framework of the reduction of the duration of the training period from three to two years in the Public Service, the training period of future police officers was reduced to two years of training. The theoretical and practical training phase remains and the practical initiation phase, corresponding to the third year of internship, has been eliminated.

A rearrangement of the basic professional training of trainee officials of the police framework is planned, in order to allow the Police Academy to maintain an effective theoretical and practical police training, adapted to the high number of police trainees/cadets.

As part of the extraordinary recruitment for the coming years and the recruiting plan selected, the cabinet decided to align the procedures of the competitive examination for access to police careers with the general framework of the Public Service.

As a result, the competitive examination giving access to police careers consists of general aptitude tests organised by the Ministry of the Civil Service and special tests organised by the Police.
