HRH Grand Duke Calls for National Solidarity

On Monday evening, His Royal Highness the Grand Duke of Luxembourg gave a televised address to the nation on the subject of the coronavirus pandemic. 

In his address, the Grand Duke began by recalling the challenging context in which the Luxembourg government has taken unprecedented measures, measures not seen "in our country in recent decades". He described these decisions as "certainly not easy, but very important and right".

In this context, the Grand Duke called for "national solidarity" and asked "everyone to take the situation seriously and follow the measures and recommendations as well".

Turning to the spread of coronavirus and its impact on vulnerable people, the Grand Duke stressed the need to "succeed in limiting the spread"  of the disease, particularly "by ensuring that as few people as possible are infected at one time". He added: "Each of us has a great responsibility"

Returning to the role of the government and relevant authorities, the Grand Duke recalled that the country's leaders were continuously analysing the situation and would adjust the measures taken when needed.

The Grand Duke particularly thanked health professionals for their "outstanding job [...] their valuable and endless work". He also expressed gratitude for "the solidarity in the population and the many initiatives that have spontaneously formed to help one another, and in particular to protect the more vulnerable people".

Luxembourg's monarch concluded by expressing gratitude and solidarity on behalf of the Grand Ducal family, who he assured were with the public wholeheartedly at "this difficult time".
