Numerous Establishments Closed, More Events Cancelled over Coronavirus Fears

Following the Luxembourg government's decision to implement stricter measures aimed at preventing the spread of coronavirus, a number of establishments have announced that they will be closed in the coming weeks; many more events have also been postponed or cancelled.

The following establishments will be closed to the public:

- Neimënster and Brasserie Wenzel will be closed from Friday until further notice, although minimum on-site service will be provided weekdays from Monday 16 March 2020;

- The National Museum of History and Art (MNHA) and Musée Dräi Eechelen will be closed with immediate effect until 30 March 2020; 

- As Friday morning, the National Library (BnL) has closed all its counters. The reading room remains open, although a maximum of 100 people can enter. Document loans have been automatically extended. The BnL is also in the process of implementing measures to offer a maximum of online services. These precautionary measures remain valid until further notice;

- The ASTI Migrant Info Desk will operate exclusively by telephone, with hotlines open between 09:00-11:00 and between 14:00-17:00 on Monday and Thursday, via tel.: 661-642533. ASTI services which are unaffected by the government's recommendations and decisions will continue to operate normally for the time being;

- The SEA Kannernascht and the AMIGO youth centre will remain closed for two weeks from Monday 16 March 2020;

- The opderschmelz cultural centre and Dominique Lang and Nei Liicht art centres in Dudelange will remain closed until 29 March 2020 inclusive;

- The Luxembourg Passport, Visa and Legalisation Office (BPVL) of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs will be operating on a reduced service from 16 to 29 March 2020; counters will be open from 08:30-12:00 only. The public is asked to only go to the BPVL counters for urgent requests. Telephone hours are currently limited to 13:00-16:00. The processing time for legalisations and apostils have increased to five working days. Passport processing time remains seven working days and three working days for emergencies respectively. Requests for legalisation / apostils registered online and submitted by post will be returned by post at the expense of the BPVL as soon as possible;

- MONDORF Domaine Thermal's health department will be closed from Saturday 14 March 2020 until further notice. Spa stays at Mondorf Parc Hôtel****Superior and at Villa Welcome can be cancelled free of charge. Further info. via tel.: 23666-666 or email: domaine@mondorf.lu;

- The ADEM employment agency will remain open but will adapt its service from Monday 16 March 2020. Appointments will take place via telephone rather than face-to-face. Those who already have an appointment with the ADEM will be called by an advisor at the set time set. People who do not have an appointment but who must go to the ADEM before a certain date (check-in) are requested to call the following numbers (rather than turning up in person): 247-85401 (Luxembourg City); 247-75072 (Esch / Belval; 247-75045 (Diekirch); 247-65341 (Differdange); 247-65360 (Dudelange); 247-85364 (Wasserbillig);  247-65400 (Wiltz); 247-75404 (Hamm). For unemployment benefit claims, call the following numbers: 247-65373 (Luxembourg and Wasserbillig); 247-85011 (Esch-sur-Alzette, Differdange and Dudelange); 247-75465 (Diekirch); 247-65350 (Wiltz). For requests for other financial assistance, consult the forms available on www.adem.lu. For requests for various certificates or other questions, contact the ADEM Contact Center via tel.: 247-88888 (jobseekers) or 247-88000 (employers). Kiosks ensuring a physical presence and providing necessary information will be open in each agency during normal opening hours.

Also closed during this period are the National Archives, the National History Museum, the Centre national de l'audiovisuel (CNA), the Centre national de littérature (CNL), the Philharmonie and Salle de Concerts Grande-Duchesse Joséphine-Charlotte, the MUDAM and Casino Luxembourg ⋅ Forum d'art Contemporain.

The following events have been postponed or cancelled (in addition to previously reported postponements / cancellations):

- On Thursday evening, Film Fund Luxembourg and neimënster closed the Virtual Reality Pavilion, three days before its official closing date (15 March 2020);

- The KDL conference on inclusive education, organised by Handicap International and scheduled for 24 March 2020 at the University of Luxembourg, has been postponed to a later date (TBC);

- Cercle Cité and its Ratskeller exhibition space are closed  until further notice. Scheduled events have been either cancelled or postponed;

- Special Olympics Luxembourg (SOL) has cancelled all sporting, training and competition activities up to 19 April 2020, after which "the situation will be reevaluated", according to a statement issued yesterday evening; 

- All events, including openings, guided tours, workshops and conferences, scheduled to take place at the MNHA and Musée Dräi Eechelen have been cancelled for the foreseeable future;

- The Ministry of Mobility and Public Works has announced the cancellation of all public meetings relating to the presentation of the new RGTR bus network planned for March 2020. Further information: www.rgtr.lu; 

- The Institut Pierre Werner (IPW) has cancelled all events planned for March 2020;

- The activities of Luxembourg's sports medical centres will be suspended from Monday 16 until Sunday 29 March 2020 inclusive and until further notice;

- The Abba Gold concert scheduled for 17 March 2020 at Trifolion Echternach has been postponed to 18 September 2020. Purchased tickets remain valid for the new date;

- BnL Guided tours and room rentals have been cancelled until further notice; the Bicherbus has cancelled its activities until the end of March; 

- The LUCA Luxembourg Center for Architecture and the NGO Friendship have postponed their upcoming lecture with architect Kashef Chowdhury, who will no longer be able to travel to Luxembourg, scheduled for 24 March 2020. As a precautionary measure, the organisers have also postponed the opening of the exhibition "Faraway so close". New dates will be communicated as soon as possible. Nevertheless, the exhibition will still run from 25 March to 5 June 2020 at LUCA.

- Kinepolis has closed all its cinemas in Luxembourg from Saturday 14 March until 31 March 2020 inclusive;

- Neimënster has cancelled or postponed all upcoming events until 31 March 2020;  

- Rotondes has cancelled its programme up to 31 March 2020;

- Casino 2OOO has cancelled or postpone all of its concerts, shows and events up to 31 March 2020. Ticket holders are asked to retain their tickets until they receive new information;

- The Rockhal and Rocklab will be closed until 31 March 2020 inclusive. All concerts up to and including 31 March will be postponed or cancelled. If the show is rescheduled, purchased tickets remain valid. In the case of a cancellation, ticket holders will be automatically refunded. Ticket buyers will be informed by email of any changes regarding their concert;

- The Centre des Arts Pluriels Ettelbruck (CAPE) has cancelled the following shows: Estro Armonico, Les Amis du Chant & Ensemble Vocal Cantica concert scheduled for 14 March; Konstantin Wecker, Jo Barnikel & Andy Houscheid concert scheduled for 19 March; closing ceremony of Serge Ecker's exhibition "Zero Panorama" scheduled for 20 March (the exhibition remains open and accessible to the public, but now from Monday to Friday from 14:00-19:00 only); "Le Siffleur” show with Fred Radix scheduled for 21 March; ️Kammerata Luxembourg concert scheduled for 22 March; "Famiglie" young audience show scheduled for 24-26 March; "Exploration of the world - Australia" event scheduled for 24 March; Adam Ben Ezra concert (Es'CAPE Music Club) scheduled for 27 March 2020. The following events planned during this period at the Conservatoire du Nord have also been cancelled: teachers' concert on 26 March; and the charity gala on 29 March 2020. All reservations (public and school sessions) are canceled and tickets already purchased will be reimbursed in full at the CAPE reception;

- ASTI has suspended and / or cancelled part of its public activities, namely its language courses, Connections4Work, "Tables de conversation" and "Écrivain public" events. The conference-debate within the framework of ASTI's 40th anniversary, "Integrating refugees into the job market: the German and Luxembourg cases", as well as the Café des langues, scheduled for Wednesday 25 March 2020, have been postponed to a later date;

- The Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg (Grand Théâtre and Théâtre des Capucins) have cancelled the following shows: "La Dame aux Camélias" scheduled for 13 March at Grand Théâtre; "Im Herzen der Gewalt" scheduled for 14-15 March at Grand Théâtre; "The Pillowman" scheduled for 16-17 March at Grand Théâtre; "Enter Achilles" scheduled for 21-22 March at Grand Théâtre; "Mentez-moi" scheduled for 30 March at Théâtre des Capucins; "Message In A Bottle" scheduled for 26-28 March 2020 at Grand Théâtre. Ticket holders will receive a voucher automatically, although those seeking a refund should contact luxembourgticket via email: info@luxembourgticket.lu mentioning their name and customer number, the show for which they have tickets and their bank details;

- The City of Dudelange has postponed the following concerts / performances: Sven Sauber on 14 March; Intervention on 18 March; Das Kapital on 20 March; Das UHU-Experiment on 23-24 March; Francesco on 28 March; and Soul-Scapes on 2 April 2020. New dates will be announced as soon as possible and tickets will remain valid for the new dates;

- The City of Dudelange has announced the postponement of Justine Blau and João Freitas' exhibitions at Dominique Lang and Nei Liicht art centres;

- Following the decision to end the 10th edition of the Luxembourg City Film Festival (LuxFilmFest) early, a complete list of winning films will be published on the afternoon of Thursday 19 March 2020;

- The Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER) has suspended all ongoing surveys of the Luxembourg population for an indefinite period;

- The college of alderman of the municipality of Mamer has suspended, cancelled or postponed all demonstrations, activities and meetings, among other events, with immediate effect and until 31 March 2020;

- The planned state visit of Cape Verdean President Jorge Carlos Fonseca and his wife to Luxembourg has been postponed to a later date.
