The municipality of Steinfort has signed a collaboration agreement for gender equality with Luxembourg's Ministry of Equality between Women and Men.
On Thursday, Luxembourg's Minister of Equality between Women and Men, Taina Bofferding, and the Mayor of Steinfort, Guy Pettinger, as well as members of the alderman college, signed a collaboration agreement for equality between women and men at the local level.
The municipality of Steinfort was the first municipality to sign this new framework agreement with the Gender Equality Minister for Gender and is currently carrying out a pilot project.
During the signing of the agreement at Steinfort town hall, Minister Bofferding commented: “I congratulate the political leaders of Steinfort for their proactive approach and their desire to ensure equality between women and men in all their fields of action. The collaboration with Steinfort opens the way to new agreements”.
For his part Mayor Guy Pettinger welcomed the support of the ministry to develop ambitious projects for the community. Indeed, the municipality is considered an essential player in supporting equality on a daily basis. It is on its territory that women and men, girls and boys, share activities, get involved in local associations and clubs and interact with municipal officials and political leaders.
As a partner-council of the municipalities, the ministry will support and accompany them in their implementation of a sustainable policy. This close collaboration is formalised by an agreement which regulates the different stages and procedures of the partnership between the State and the municipality.
The implementation of the agreement with Steinfort will be assessed by mutual agreement at the end of the year. Following the pilot phase, the ministry will offer this support method to the 102 municipalities in the country.
