The number of people applying for international protection (asylum) in Luxembourg in November 2019 fell to 138, down from 209 the previous month and from 234 in November 2018.

To date, 1,884 people have applied for asylum in Luxembourg so far this year, compared to 1,934 by November 2018 and 2,077 by November 2017.

Asia represented the continent with the largest number of asylum seekers (56), with 20 coming from Afghanistan alone. 52 applicants came from Africa (including 17 from Eritrea), nineteen from Europe (seven from Albania) and eleven from the Americas (seven from Venezuela alone). So far in 2019, most applicants (479) have come from Eritrea, followed by Syria (250) and Afghanistan (151).

In total, 117 decisions on asylum applications were taken during November 2019, with 49 gaining refugee status. To date in 2019, a total of 2,043 decisions have been taken resulting in 620 refugees being granted asylum in Luxembourg.
