The Grand Ducal Police have reported that, on Thursday 25 July 2019, a boat angler who had been fishing on the stretch of the River Moselle between Stadtbredimus and Remich, had caught his anchor in several pots.

The angler alerted the authorities and representatives of the fire brigade from Remich arrived at the river where they used a riverboat to recover a network of nets and creels from the Moselle. In the traps, which are understood to have been in the water for only a short time, were 3 eels and a crayfish.

The illegal fishing gear was brought ashore, the fish and the crayfish were released and the nets/pots were confiscated.

The owners of the pots could not be established. As a result, the dossier filed in the police records were against "an unknown person".

The police have reminded the public that fishing in the river Moselle is allowed with just 2 hand lines / fishing rods.
