The number of people applying for international protection (asylum) in Luxembourg in June 2019 fell to 124, from 140 the previous month and from 151 in June 2018.

To date, 1,062 people have applied for asylum in Luxembourg so far this year, compared to 850 in the first 6 months of 2018 and 1,206 in the first 6 months of 2017.

Africa represents the origin of 51 asylum-seekers (30 from Eritrea alone), 42 from Asia (18 from Syria), 29 from Europe (14 from Albania) and 2 from the Americas. So far in 2019, 328 applicants have come from Eritrea, with Syria the next at 100 and 77 from Afghanistan.

154 decisions on asylum applications were taken during June 2019, with 35 gaining refugee status, 15 applications refused, 29 applications withdrawn and 57 applications declared incompetent or transferred. To date in 2019, a total of 1,199 decisions have been taken resulting in 351 refugees being granted asylum in Luxembourg.
