A total of 140 applications for international protection were received in Luxembourg last month.

May 2019 saw the submission of 140 applications for asylum to the Luxembourg Department of Immigration. This represents a decrease compared to the number of  applications received in April 2019 (170) but a slight increase compared to the number received in May last year (139). 

The majority of the asylum applications last month once again came from people leaving Eritrea (25), followed by Syria (21) and Iraq (17). Applications came mainly from the continents of Europe, Asia and Africa with six originating in America (five from Venezuela and one from Nicaragua).

In total, 32 applicants received the status of refugee and a further three received the status of subsidiary protection in May 2019.

The total number of applications so far this year is 938.
