On Tuesday 11 June 2019, the Freight Control Brigade of Luxembourg's Customs and Excise Authority seized a total of 462,000 cigarettes at Findel Airport.

As part of a customs audit, a shipment from Hong Kong was, among others, controlled. Consisting of 30 ovens, the shipment was destined for the United Kingdom. By checking the contents of this shipment, the agents found that the ovens were filled with contraband cigarettes. In all, 2,310 cartons of cigarettes were discovered.

Details were documented by the Customs and Excise Administration and forwarded to the District Court of Luxembourg. According to the regulation on products subject to excise duties, the fine foreseen for fraud as in the present case is €520,000.
