The tourist season in the Luxembourg got off to a positive start last week with an increase of 101 or 2.6% visitors to the Luxembourg City Tourist Office (LCTO).
The LCTO welcomed a total of 3,986 visits, at both its reception desk in Place Guillaume II and its "Explore Luxembourg" stand in Place d'Armes over the Easter weekend. This represents a 2.6% increase compared to 2018 and is in line with the growing trend observed in recent years.
In addition, the number of guided tours and visitors to the Bock Casemates increased considerably: there were 52 more tours, an increase of 96.3%, and 1,367 more visitors (+36%) to the Casemates, representing a total of 5,164 visitors. On Friday 19 April alone, the LCTO organised 41 guided tours including six "Explore Luxembourg" free tours- the greatest amount during this long weekend. The LCTO also had the highest number of visitors the following day on Saturday 20 April, with 1,658 visits at its reception desk as well as 1,695 visitors to the Bock Casemates.
Adding to these positive trends was the success of the fifth edition of the "Explore Luxembourg" touristic and cultural event, which launched the 2019 tourist season, and the traditional Emaischen Easter markets, which remains a popular cultural and tourist attraction for Luxembourg residents and visitors from the Greater Region and beyond.
In terms of the nationality of tourists between Good Friday and Easter Monday, most visitors came from Germany, with a total of 1,158 people (+11% compared to 2018), followed by visitors from France (719 visitors/+6%) , Luxembourg residents (396 visitors/+ 12%) and tourists from the Netherlands (252 visitors/+53%) and Belgium (128 visitors/+ 2%).
