This Thursday 21 March 2019, Her Royal Highness Princess Claire of Luxembourg will celebrate her 34th birthday.
Born on 21 March 1985 in Filderstadt, Germany, Claire Margareta Lademacher is the second child of Hartmut and Gabriele Lademacher. She has an older brother, Félix Lademacher, and spent her childhood with her family in Usingen (district of Haut-Taunus, Germany).
Claire became Princess of Luxembourg on 21 September 2013, upon her marriage to His Royal Highness Prince Félix of Luxembourg. Princess Claire and Prince Félix have two children: Princess Amalia Gabriela Maria Teresa, who was born on 15 June 2014 at the Grande-Duchesse Charlotte maternity ward in Luxembourg and Prince Liam Henri Hartmut, born in Geneva on 28 November 2016, at the General Beaulieu Clinic. Princess Claire has lived in Frankfurt, Germany, with her husband and two children since August 2018.
From an early age, Princess Claire has been passionate about dance. She also plays tennis, volleyball and badminton and enjoys pilates and skiing. Very close to nature, she is also passionate about photography and music. Inspired by her parents, her interests focus on social and cultural themes and she has undertaken many trips while as part of humanitarian projects.
After completing primary school in Germany, Princess Claire moved with her family to Atlanta, USA, where she attended Atlanta International School. In 1999, the Lademacher family returned to Germany where Claire attended the Frankfurt International School in Oberursel, before spending her last two years in Switzerland, at the boarding school of Collège International Beau Soleil. She completed her undergraduate course and in 2003 obtained the English Diploma in A-Levels with honours for outstanding results (Prize of Excellency).
Princess Claire also studied obtained a degree in International Communication at the American University of Paris before gaining her first professional experience at the Condé Nast publishing house in New York and Munich before continuing her experience at IMG World in Berlin. She holds a doctorate (PhD) and has defended her thesis on the ethical aspects of consent to organ donation, which she presented in Rome. As part of the research for her thesis, she was welcomed as a guest researcher at the Kennedy Institute of Ethics at Georgetown University in Washington D.C.
In addition to German, her mother tongue, Princess Claire speaks English, French and Italian.
