On Friday 16 September, Luxembourg's Minister of the Interior, Dan Kersch, attended the inauguration of two new fire and rescue vehicles for the Central Response Centre of the town of Dalheim.
Featuring next-generation hardware, the new fire tender (LFA 2-1) best meets the current standards and the needs of the town and allows the emergency services to intervene in case of fire or technical interventions. The command and rapid response vehicle (KDOW-1) is used mainly for executing the missions of "first responder" service which aims to provide acts of first aid as soon as possible to members of the local population.
In his speech, Minister Kersch congratulated those responsible for the fire and emergency centre in the municipality of Dalheim - which was formed in January 2013 as a result of the merger of Welfrange and Filsdorf with Dalheim, an initiative that the Minister described as commendable and far-sighted. "Furthermore, the fact that Dalheim CIS (Centre d’incendie et de secours) was among the first to participate in the" first responder" services is worth addressing," he said.
Finally, the Minister expressed the respect and gratitude of the Government with regard to the availability and commitment of volunteers in service to others. "The acknowledgment and recognition of volunteering is one of the "fils rouges" of the reform of the emergency services," said the minister, "the volunteers will continue to form the basis of future emergency services based on the complementarity of volunteers and professionals."
