The National Library of Luxembourg (BnL) has announced that from October 2016, the documents of the media library - more than fifteen thousand DVDs, Blu-rays, CDs and language methods - can be borrowed and returned by the users themselves via an automatic terminal, with RFID technology (Radio Frequency Identification).
To prepare the auto loan collection, conversion work in RFID technology is being undertaken at the library from 13 to 30 September 2016. During the works, the library remains open and all documents are accessible for home loans and for on-site consultation.
However, as the work may cause some noise, the BnL advises its users to go to the Hall of Arts for consultation on site (reading room on the 1st floor above the library). CD players and televisions with DVD / Blu-ray players are available there. Headphones and remote controls for various devices are available at the desk of the library.
The RFID pilot project allows BNL to test this new technology for its implementation in the new building, whose opening is scheduled for the second half of 2018.
