A stretch of the N28 was temporarily closed after a serious traffic accident took place at 16:15 on Thursday afternoon.

A witness at the scene described the sequence of events to the police. Two cars reportedly collided whilst both attempting to overtake on the N28 heading from Oestrange to Bous. The witness, having been driving at the time and positioned between the two cars as the incident started to unfold, watched as the driver behind him overtook him and then attempted to overtake the next car as well. The female driver of the latter car, however, simultaneously decided to overtake the cars in front of her and, unable to see the car attempting to overtake it, started pulling out. The resulting collision sent the woman's car rolling into a field on the side of the road, the rear of the vehicle slamming into a tree before coming to a stop on its roof.

The injured woman was rushed to hospital by ambulance. The two cars involved in the accident were written-off.

The public prosecutor ordered an investigation of the incident and the road was closed to traffic as the car wrecks were removed and forensics teams undertook an examination of the site.
