The Luxembourg City Tourist Office (LCTO) has noted a decline in the number of people participating in touristic events during the 2016 Easter weekend compared to the same period the previous year.
Looking mainly at the Casemates du Bock and the guided tours organised by the LCTO, the Office found that this year’s guided tours showed the lowest participation rate since before 2013. A decrease of 253 participants from 2015 to 2016 was experienced and, when going back a year further to 2014, the decrease is even more notable with a drop of 972 participants. The figures for the Casemates du Bock are more heartening, however, as they show a steady increase from 2013 onwards, meaning that the attraction had 1,114 more visitors during Easter 2016 than Easter 2013. All in all the LCTO guided tours saw 1,637 participants during Easter 2016 and the Casemates du Bock enjoyed a total of 3,710 during the same period.
Looking at the number of individuals who contacted the LCTO during the Easter weekend 2016 the figures show a decrease of 637 individuals from 2015 but a slight increase when compared to both 2014 and 2013, by 28 and 147, respectively. The number of participants, entries and those contacting the LCTO shows a drop of 854 individuals from 10,138 to 9,284 between Easter 2016 and 2015. The 9,284 individuals represents a higher number than that seen in 2013 but lower than in 2014.
The nationalities for those visiting the Grand Duchy are, according to the LCTO, mostly from neighbouring countries with 26% of them being German and 16% French.
The LCTO have made the decision to extend the visiting hours of the Casemates du Bock. Whereas the attraction used to close at 17:30 it will now remain open until 20:30 starting today (Friday 1 April 2016) and will remain so until the end of September 2016.
