Police were forced to solve an Easter mystery in the early hours of Sunday morning after receiving false reports of a car theft.
The police received a call from an unidentified individual who claimed to have has his car stolen along Route d'Arlon in Strassen. The caller told the police that he and a friend had met some people near the football field with whom they began to listen to music from the car. To this end, the key to the vehicle was reportedly left in the ignition. The car owner then claimed that one of his new acquaintances asked to test-drive the car, before beating up the car owner and stealing his vehicle.
Police officers from Luxembourg and Capellen were dispatched, although upon their arrival at the scene there was no one to be found. However, at the same time a woman called in to report an accident along Route d'Arlon, stating that she has seen a man standing next to the accident vehicle and a woman screaming inside. It was soon determined that the vehicle in question was the one that had allegedly been stolen, and had been abandoned after crashing into a traffic light. Three doors had been left open although all occupants had fled.
Two men and a woman were then found walking on Rue du Stade, who promptly changed direction after catching sight of the police. They claimed that their vehicle had just been stolen, although one of the men had sustained injuries to his hand, whilst another had broken glass in his hood and the woman's clothing was covered in glass splinters. In addition, they were all found to be under the influence of alcohol and showered with broken glass, a breathalyser test was ordered. The individuals in question claimed that a stranger has asked to drive their car and when he began driving too fast, one of the occupants pulled on the handbrake which caused the accident.
