The Grand Ducal Police are on the lookout for several individuals thought to have been involved in a credit card scam in September earlier this year.
At around 17:35 on 5 September 2015, an elderly woman was approach be a young couple after having withdrawn money from a cash machine in a savings bank branch at Place de l'Hôtel de Ville in Esch-sur-Alzette.
The woman shown in photographs informed the victim in French that money had been frequently stolen from the machine, encouraging her to withdraw money again in order to check this. Upon doing so, the elderly lady found that her bank card this time became stuck in the machine. The couple advised her to wait until Monday to return to the bank to try retrieve her card. When the lady attempted to block her card, she was informed that money had already been taken from it, with the bank stating that the card was not stuck in the machine.
The police have now launched a public appeal for information relating to the incident, asking anyone with information as to the identity of the suspects or with prior experience of a similar incident to contact the department in Esch-sur-Alzette at 4997-5500.
