The Governing Council of the Ministry of Health today approved the appointment of Dr. Jean-Claude Schmit as Director of Health of the Health Department.
Dr. Jean-Claude Schmit is currently CEO of the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH), formerly CRP-Santé.
A specialist in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Schmit has gained extensive clinical experience over the last 25 years, 19 of which he spent at the Department of Infection Disease and the Travel Clinic of the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL).
Dr. Jean-Claude Schmit is also known as a researcher in the field of virology and molecular epidemiology. He will take up his new position on the Health Board on 1 January 2016.
