His Royal Highness Grand Duke Henri today extended his condolences to French President François Hollande, following a devastating collestion between a truck and a bus carrying elderly people in southern France this morning.
In a telegram released earlier today by the Grand Ducal Court, HRH Grand Duke Henri wrote:
"Mr. President,
It is with great emotion that the Grand Duchess and I have learned of the terrible traffic accident which occurred today at Puisseguin in Gironde.
On behalf of the people of Luxembourg, we estend our deepest condolences. Our thoughts and feelings of compassion are with the families and friends affected by this tragedy".
The head-on collision occurred at around 07:30 this morning, with 43 people killed in the crash and François Hollande citing the accident as "an immense tragedy".
