With a view to promoting the understanding and integration of people from diverse backgrounds and cultures in the Grand Duchy, the Ville de Luxembourg has teamed up with the Office Luxembourgeois de l'Accueil et de l'Intégration (OLAI) to hold five evenings centered around this theme.
With around 108,000 inhabitants representing more than 160 nationalities, Luxembourg is a country ripe for such intercultural exchange. The discussions will be attended by political representatives of the City of Luxembourg, heads of City departments involved, as well as experts from the Centre d'Étude et de Formation Interculturelles et Sociales (CEFIS).
Participants will receive the opportunity to actively intervene in discussions and share their reflections, proposals and ideas with those present. The evenings, varying in topic covered, will take place on the following dates:
9 November 2015: Work and housing as factors of integration, Hollerich cultural centre.
How to facilitate the process of accessing housing and employment?
12 November 2015: Education and school integration of children of migrants, Bonnevoie cultural centre.
How to guarantee equal access to education by taking into account the increasing diversity of the school population?
17 November 2015: The reception of newcomers and social aid, Hollerich cultural centre.
How to familiarise residents with their new environment and in what ways meet their needs?
24 November 2015: Facilitating integration through culture, sport and recreation, Bonnevoie cultural centre.
How can we strengthen social cohesion in a situation of diversity?
26 November 2015: The socio-political participation of immigration populations, Hollerich Cultural Centre.
How to foster participatory democray and involve citizens in decision-making?
