Police Luxembourg has been recognised for its road safety programme, receiving an award at the 2015 PRAISE awards of the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) yesterday in Brussels.
At an award ceremony held in the Belgian capital on Tuesday 20 October 2015, the Luxembourg Police were rewarded for their efforts in the Policing sector, particularly with regards to clear risk assessment of employees, mandatory advanced road safety training for special units, and vehicles equipped with accident data recorders.
As it is estimated that six out of ten work accidents resulting in death in Europe are road crashes, including both crashes while driving for work and commuting, the PRAISE awards are held annually by the ETSC to recognise organisations who have shown considerable commitment to improving work-related road safety. Divided into three separate categories of SME, large company, and public authority, nominees are then examined by an independent panel of experts who select the winner.
"Road safety is everyone's business," commented Antonio Avenoso, Executive Director of ETSC. "But organisations, large and small, have a pivotal role to play by putting road safety considerations at the heart of their operations. The companies and organisations we are recognising today are driving the change with initiatives that reduce collissions, prevent injuries and also help the bottom line".
Other organisation which received High Commendations at this year's PRAISE awards were OMV Petrom, Romania, in the oil and gas sector; Transport for London, UK, in the field of public transport; AstraZeneca for the pharmaceuticals sector; whilst the UK Institute of Advance Motorists won the Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Award in the charity sector.
