With a view to promoting a fair distribution of tasks between men and women in all areas of life, the Ministry of Equal Opportunities today revealed an online game.
The MEGA-Spill, today presented in its electronic form by Minister for Equal Opportunities, Lydia Mutsch, was originally developed in 2013 as a classic memory game, involving selecting a sample of different professions to give young people an overview of careers that might interest them in the future.
The revamped electronic version has been geared towards children in the second and third cycles of primary education, as children do not yet have the principle of preconceptions regarding gendered role divisions. With this in mind, the Ministry of Equal Opportunities has proposed a range of measures relating to the field of labour and education in order to familiarise young people with the notion of equal treatment between men and women.
The idea behind the game is to show players that girls and boys are able to select the same choice of study and practice the same profession, regardless of gender, and approach gender equality in a fun way. The game aims to show that there are no typically male or typically female professions by representing each job with both a man and a woman.
The MEGA-Spill can be played online at www.mega-spill.lu, both alone or as a pair, and includes different levels of difficulty.
