A bar was left wrecked and several individuals injured following a fight which broke out between 20 people yesterday evening in Esch-sur-Alzette.
At around 22.25 on Sunday evening, the police were called out to a local bar along Rue d'Audun, where around 20 people were thought to have been involved in a serious brawl.
Patrols from the Differdange and Dudelange police forces were called in as back-up, with the first patrol arriving at the scene within minutes of the call to find the furniture inside the bar had been broken and glass strewn all over the floor.
As the police entered the premises, it was determined that the offenders, who allegedly were all armed with baseball bats, had disappeared from the scene. Two perpetrators, however, were found inside the building, with one having sustained a serious head injury left lying on the ground.
The police reported that customers inside the bar were uncooperative, but that they were able to determine that the victim had been beaten with a baseball bat. The man was taken to hospital, where he was found to be in critical condition due to the severity of the assault. The host was also slightly injured.
The prosecutor was informed and ordered the crime scene to be cordoned off an examined by the Criminal Investigation Department, with further examination from the police judiciaire arranged.
