Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn, will today represent Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice President of the European Commission, at a political meeting taking place in Luxembourg between the EU and the Republic of Cape Verde.
The first meeting will assess the implementation of the Special Partnership between the EU and Cape Verde in 2015, before discussing the outlook for 2016. The Ministers present, including Minister for Cooperation and Humanitarian Action, Romain Schneider, will aim to further exchange views on the political, economic and development cooperation between the EU and Cape Verde before addressing current regional and international issues such as security and stability in West Africa, migration and climate change.
Minister Asselborn is also due to sign a bilateral agreement with the Republic of Cape Verde on behalf of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, addressing the concerted management of migration as part of the Mobility Partnership between the two countries.
The agreement will provide facilitations for legal migration, measures aimed at inclusive development and circular migration as well as provisions for readmission.
This further strengthening of collaboration between Cape Verde and Luxembourg follows the cultural cooperation between the two countries, advocated by Minister of Culture of Cape Verde, Mário Lúcio Matias at a conference in the Grand Duchy last month.
