In statements released over the weekend, Luxembourg Prime Minister, Minister of State Xavier Bettel and Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, condemned the brutal terrorist attack on Saturday which killed over 95 people.
Bombs were detonated on Saturday near Ankara's central train station, where people were gathering in preparation for a leftist march againt the violence between the Turkish government and Kurdish PKK militants, resulting in heavy casualties.
Prime Minister Bettel offered the condolences of the Luxembourg Government to the Turkish people, declaring "I strongly condemn the brutal and despicable act of terror causing the death of a hundred and injuring hundreds of people demonstration for peace."
The Prime Minister wtoe in the book of condolences opened at the Turkish Embassy in Luxembourg: "In these tragic and painful circumstances, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the Turkish people and the families of the innocent civilians."
"Nothing can justify such a horrible act against people who wanted to demonstrate for peace," stated Minister Asselborn. "I would like to express Luxembourg's solidarity with Turkey in its fight against terrorism and I would like to call to remain united in the face of this attempt at destabilisation. I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the relatives of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to the many wounded. On behalf of the Luxembourg government, I extend my deepest sympathy to the people and authorities of Turkey".
