On Saturday 19 September 2015, the Executive Board of Quattropole, the network comprised of the cities of Luxembourg, Metz, Saarbrücken and Trier, lay the foundations for future projects.
Charlotte Britz, incumbent president, presented the new work programme, stressing that particular importance would be given to the themes of mobility, the digital economy and fair trade.
"Between our cities, there is a large number of cross-border flows, in particular with regard to the labour market," the President stated. "Most people use cars, which means congestion on motorways. I believe that a mobily offer which is better rhythmed and more cross-country can enhance the territory of the entire Greater Region".
A joint project group has already been dedicated to the field of fair trase. Since 2012, all four cities have been decorated with the 'fair trade' label. Quattropole stated its ambition to continuously demonstrate itself as an exemplary in matters of social rights, the creation of fair prices and sustainability.
The network of cities entitled Quattropole provides a framework for political dialogue between the mayors of Luxembourg, Metz, Saarbrücken and Trier, with the aim of identifying common areas of activity and coordinating strategies.
In 2014, the cities reinforced Quattropole by creation an association of German law. Founded in 2000, the network attaches particular importance to the promotion of culture.
The definition of political priorities and the taking of strategic decisions of the association brings together the four mayors, in consultation with the General Assembly, which is composed of 44 elected officials altogether.
The next General Assembly is due to be held on 5 November 2015.
