Following a report from STATEC on Monday reporting that paid employment rose 0.7% in the second quarter of 2015, Luxembourg's Agence Pour le Développement de l'Emploi (ADEM) today revealed that on 31 August 2015 the number of resident job seekers registered with the agency stood at 17,150, representing a decrease of 2.4% in one year.
The 424-person annual decrease is largely constituted by the decrease in number of those registered with ADEM aged under 30, which fell by 6.8% in a year. By contrast, the number of job seekers aged 50 and over increased during the same period by 2.3%.
In August 2015, 1,598 people registered with ADEM, of which 621 were doing so for the first time. These figures are up slightly from the same month of 2014, when 1,594 people used ADEM, of which 592 did so for the first time.
The number of recipients of full unemployment benefits totalled 6,917 by the end of August 2015, falling by 5.1% for the same period of the previous year. The unemployment rate has remained stable at 6.9%, after steadily declining from 7.2% from August 2014.
At the end of August 2015, 5,273 people were found to have been assigned to an employment measure, constituting a 9.2% increase, or 445 people, compared with August 2014.
