Another gluten-free chocolate bar brand has been pulled off the shelves today following the recall of Schär Twin Bars last weekend after the snacks were found to contain salmonella.
The early warning system of the European Commission informed Luxembourg's food safety authorities that salmonella had been detected in the Twin Bars product, and further inspection has shown that Taste it! gluten-free bars, of the Damhert company, were also affected by the bacteria and were subsequently withdrawn from sale in various shops in the Grand Duchy.
Salmonella bacteria can causes infections involving diarrhoea, fever, vomiting and stomach cramps and can cause gastroenteritis in humans. The incubation period is generally 12 to 48 hours, and subseqeunt symptoms may cause dangerous dehydration. The infection is usually treated with antibiotics.
The food safety authorities are advising members of the public to stop consuming the product, but only products with the Lot numbes 5146, 2141 and 5196 and those with an expiry date of 31.07.2016 and 31.09.2016 are thought to have been comprimised.
