A motorist has been left seriously injured after crashing his vehicle into a tree on the N8 early this morning.

The driver is thought to have veered off the road between Kreutzerbuch and Saeul at around 07:30 this morning, whereupon the car collided with a tree. The force of the impact, which hit the driver's side, reportedly caused the vehicle to rotate on its own axis, before it came to a stop in an embankment on the side of the road.

The motorist was subsequently trapped in his vehicle and Sauvetage Steinfort were called to the scene to cut the man out of the car. Emergency services then rushed the man to hospital to be treated for the serious injuries he sustained during the incident.

The Grand Ducal Police have reported that it is still unknown how and why the driver came off the designated road.

The area of the incident was blocked until 09:00 whilst the emergency services dealt with the accident.
