On Monday 4 May 2026, the City of Luxembourg (VdL) reported on the inauguration of the exhibition “The Shoe as Subject and Object of Art” in Luxembourg-Grund.

The opening event, which took place on Thursday 30 April, introduced works created by students of the artistic section of the Lycée Athénée de Luxembourg and was organised by the CAPEL educational and leisure activities centre of the VdL childcare department (Service Foyers scolaires).

The VdL said: “An everyday object, the shoe is also an artistic motif rich in meaning, at the crossroads of art, history and fashion. Entitled ‘The Shoe as Subject and Object of Art’, the exhibition presents the creations of students from the artistic section of the Athénée, who were invited to imagine and design the prototype of an original shoe.”

According to the VdL, following an introduction to the history of the shoe and to emblematic works – from Magritte to contemporary fashion designers – the students developed their own designs through sketches, three-dimensional models and the selection of various materials. The work continued with the production of watercolour drawing boards, enabling a precise analysis of shapes, proportions and details.

The exhibition will be on display at the Tunnel am Gronn in the city’s Grund district until October 2026.
