On Wednesday 29 July 2026, Luxembourg's Ministry of State, Ministry for Home Affairs and the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) announced that Luxembourg would deploy a water bomber aircraft and firefighters to support France in combating wildfires in the Gironde region under the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.
The Luxembourg government has decided to deploy a water bomber aircraft to Gironde to reinforce the operational resources already engaged on the ground. At the initiative of the Prime Minister, and in coordination with the Minister for Home Affairs and the CGDIS, an aircraft operated by Aquarius Aerial Firefighting, a Cargolux subsidiary specialising in aerial wildfire suppression, will be sent to France.
In parallel, fifteen CGDIS firefighters will join a unit from the Moselle Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS 57) as part of a joint support group. The mixed team will provide personnel and logistical support to French firefighters responding to the wildfires.
