On Tuesday 6 January 2026, Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden attended a summit in Paris (France) of the “coalition of the willing”, consisting of leaders from mainly European nations who are seeking to firm up security guarantees for Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire with Russia.
A statement by coalition leaders said that allies will participate in a proposed US-led ceasefire monitoring and verification mechanism.
Other European leaders present at the meeting included French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
