Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Xavier Bettel, participated in the meeting of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on the peer review of Luxembourg in Paris, France, on Monday 13 January 2025.
Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Cooperation and Foreign Trade recalled that the policies and programmes of each OECD member are regularly subject to a critical review assessing development cooperation and humanitarian aid activities.
Estonia and the Netherlands conducted Luxembourg's peer review. During the evaluation process, interviews were conducted with stakeholders active in the cooperation sector in Luxembourg as well as officials in Cape Verde, Luxembourg's partner country.
The ministry noted that the meeting was an opportunity to present the preliminary version of the report on Luxembourg and respond to the observations raised during the review. The final version of the report will be published at the end of February 2025.
In his speech, Minister Bettel stressed the importance of development aid for local populations and Luxembourg's continued commitment to dedicate 1% of its GNP to official development assistance (ODA).
