On Friday 13, Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 December 2024, the City of Bastogne in Belgium will organise the celebrations o the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, a major World War II battle that took place in the Ardennes region in December 1944.

The Nuts Weekend is an annual event commemorating the Battle of the Bulge; it takes place in the Bastogne War Museum (including an American and German military camp just a few steps from the Museum's car park), the Bastogne War Rooms, the Mardasson Memorial and the nearby and the Battlefield Bois Jacque just a bit further out from the city of Bastogne.

The event aims to honour the sacrifices made by the men and women who fought for freedom during World War II.

The term "NUTS" is famously associated with the Battle of the Bulge: When the Nazis demanded the surrender of Bastogne, Brigadier General Anthony McAuliffe of the 101st Airborne Division responded with a single word: "NUTS!" This act of defiance became a symbol of American resilience during the battle. This response boosted the morale of the American defenders of Bastogne, turning the city and its garrison into a symbol of resistance against the last major German offensive of the war. At the time, Brigadier General McAuliffe was based in the cellar of the Bastogne War Rooms which became an iconic location from World War II.

In tribute to the veterans, the commemoration anniversary includes a remembrance service, reenactments with 150+ extras and historical tents, a parade of military vehicles, overflights by vintage military planes (including a 25m-wide American Waco glider, airdrops, a commemorative show at the Mardasson... and much more.

Food and drink will be available in a restaurant under a heated roof with non-stop musical entertainment.

Bastogne War Museum programme, including unique testimonies from WWII veterans, will have some highlights of commemoration:
- Saturday morning: Joe Landry will discuss the Battle of Normandy; Chester "Buck" Sloan (Indian Head) will be sharing his experience of the Ardennes.
- Saturday afternoon: Meeting with four Belgian veterans (André Liégeois, Julien Nyssens, Robert Chot and Thierry Coppieter's T Wallant) as well as Anne Megens, rescued from a concentration camp.
