On Thursday 5 and Friday 6 September 2024, Luxembourg's Minister of Finance, Gilles Roth, travelled to Ankara and Istanbul in Turkey for a working visit.

As reported by Luxembourg's Ministry of Finance, Minister Roth met with his Turkish counterpart, Mehmet Şimşek, to discuss current European and international issues as well as bilateral relations between the two countries. The Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, Fatih Karahan, also participated in this meeting.

The second leg of the Luxembourg minister's working visit took place in Istanbul on Friday. Minister Roth met with representatives of the Turkish economic and financial sector, including members of the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) and representatives of Turkish Airlines. The minister reiterated the Luxembourg Government's priorities in terms of competitiveness and development of the financial centre.

"I would like to warmly thank Mehmet Şimşek and Fatih Karahan for their kind welcome in Ankara and for our constructive exchange on various political and economic issues," commented Minister Roth. "Turkey is both a significant partner and an important economic power. This visit was therefore also an opportunity to explore opportunities for cooperation, particularly in the financial field."
