Luxembourg's Ministry of State and the Directorate of Defence have announced that Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg and Prime Minister Luc Frieden will attend the official international ceremony for the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy this week.

At the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, Grand Duke Henri and Prime Minister Frieden will travel to Omaha Beach on Thursday 6 June 2024 for this ceremony.

They will be accompanied by the President of the Chamber of Deputies (parliament), Claude Wiseler, Luxembourg's Minister of Defence, Yuriko Backes, and Luxembourg's Chief of Defence, General Steve Thull.

As reported by the Ministry of State and the Directorate of Defence, this ceremony is an opportunity to honour the memory of those who fought in the Allied Forces during the Second World War. Guests include D-Day veterans who will share their experiences. The ceremony will conclude with a reception at Caen City Hall, offered to heads of state and government by President Macron.
