The visit was an opportunity for the two heads of government to discuss current bilateral and European issues in order to further strengthen "excellent" relations between Portugal and Luxembourg. "The friendship between our people, the friendship between our countries, and our personal friendship that precedes that since we became prime ministers, allows us to strengthen the ties between our two countries," said Prime Minister Frieden.

In their discussions, noted the ministry, the prime ministers shared their ambition to strengthen economic ties between their countries throughout the value chain and for the benefit of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly in the sectors of renewable energy and technological innovation.

"I also believe that we need to intensify our relations, including our economic relations which allow us to finance our social policies and the digital and ecological transitions," added Prime Minister Frieden.

The two heads of government also addressed the main subjects currently under discussion at the European Council.

In a complex international context, they also underlined the importance of the European elections to preserve the unity of Europe and its values of stability, the rule of law and prosperity.
