Each year an international scratch programming competition is held for children aged from 6 to 18 years old; this year Luxembourg participated for the first time in the Scratch Olympiad 2023 in Thailand.
Two participants from Luxembourg passed the qualifying round and reached the final: Tudor Paltanea participated in the "ScratchChild" 9-10 year-old category and took 2nd place, and Mikhail Larionov participated in the "ScratchTeen" 13-14 year.old category and took 3rd place.
This year, 4,800+ entries were recorded from 40 countries entered and 32 national selection stages took place. The categories are as follows:
- My world, 7-8 year old
- My book, 9-10 year old
- Know-all, 11-12 year old
- Games, 13-14 year old
- STREAM-project, 15-18 year old
- Scratch School, 18 and older
About Scratch and The Scratch Olympiad
Scratch is a free programming environment designed to engage children in creative learning experiences, a visual event-driven programming environment designed for children and adolescents. The Scratch Olympiad started in 2017. According to the organisers, "Scratch is the door to the world of "big programming" and the Scratch Olympiad brings together the most talented future developers and innovators."
