In response to the critical humanitarian situation in Gaza, which has reached an unprecedented scale following the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict since Saturday 7 October 2023, Luxembourg is set to make contributions amounting to €2.5 million in humanitarian aid to support international efforts in the region.
Through these contributions, the Grand Duchy supports the efforts of the international humanitarian community in Gaza, particularly in the areas of emergency shelter, food aid and psychological support, as well as in the areas of health and education.
Thus, €2.3 million will be distributed between several humanitarian organisations active in the Gaza Strip and partners of Luxembourg Cooperation, in particular the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), but also other international organisations, such as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the UN World Food Programme (WFP), the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC).
In addition to contributions for humanitarian efforts in the Gaza Strip, Luxembourg’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs noted it plans to support the Luxembourg non-profit organisations Handicap International Luxembourg and Caritas Luxembourg with €100,000 each, in order to fund their humanitarian interventions in Lebanon and the West Bank, respectively.
The Luxembourg contribution planned for the humanitarian response to the crisis in the Middle East will therefore amount to a total of €2.5 million.
