Ten publishing houses are set to represent Luxembourg once again at the Frankfurt Book Fair (Frankfurter Buchmesse) this year, from Wednesday 18 to Sunday 22 October.
Kultur | lx – Arts Council Luxembourg has invited book lovers to explore Luxembourg literary creation at the "Books from Luxembourg" national stand at the Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany this month.
In 2022, the fair brought together 93,000 professionals. This year's 75th anniversary edition promises a varied programme dedicated to both professionals and the general public. The "Books from Luxembourg" stand (Hall 3.1 / Stand F134) presents ten publishing houses again this year: Black Fountain Press, capybarabooks, Editions Guy Binsfeld, Editions Schortgen, Ernster Editions, Hydre Éditions, Kremart Edition, PassaParola Editions, PersPektiv Editions and Point Nemo Publishing.
The Luxembourg stand, created by Studio Polenta and including a work by illustrator Keong-A Song, will be the meeting point for Luxembourg publishers looking to establish new contacts and exchange with international professionals in the book sector, as well as to present their editorial programme and their authors and to plan new projects. Two networking events will be held at this stand on Wednesday 18 October (from 17:00 to 18:30) and on Thursday 19 October 2023 (from 17:30 to 18:30).
In addition to the presentation of new releases from Luxembourg publishers, the stand will highlight literary prizes and recently translated Luxembourgish works. Since the start of 2022, Kultur | lx has supported the translation of 22 Luxembourgish novels with foreign publishing houses. Thanks to these publications, it is now possible to discover Luxembourgish literary works in countries such as Greece, Serbia, Bulgaria and Macedonia.
Also bearing the particularity of literary multilingualism, Pro Helvetia is organising a round table about "Accent: Slightly shifted similarities - Writing in small languages" at its stand (Hall 3.1, Booth F122) on Friday 20 October 2023 from 13:00 to 14:00. Among the panellists is Luxembourgish author Jeff Schinker, who notably published Sabotage, a work written in four languages and shortlisted for Luxembourg's Prix Servais, the Lëtzebuerger Buchpräis and the European Union Prize for Literature.
