The Directorate for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs of Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has announced that the Grand Duchy is providing €200,000 in emergency aid to support populations displaced by the conflict in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
Following the escalation of the conflict in this region, which began on 19 September 2023, Luxembourg is making a contribution of €200,000 via the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to support the more than 70,000 people who have fled their homes to Armenia.
Through this contribution, Luxembourg will support the ICRC's activities aimed at meeting the needs of affected populations in terms of medical care, water and other essentials, such as food and household items.
The Directorate for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs noted that the ICRC is the only international humanitarian organisation present in the conflict-affected area, where the organisation has worked since 1992.
